Longevity with Gender Challenges
It occurred to me that there is a link between challenging the brain to obtain a longer and healthier life and the statistics which identify longevity for married people over that of single individuals. Yet, that does not necessarily mean that married people are happier than the loners. Certainly married people are presented with many more complex problem solving situations.
The case in point that is the most glaring is that gender differences result in the sexes attempting to figure out how the opposite sex thinks and feels. Researchers today have discovered that the brain of men and women are wired differently; which makes communications difficult because the same vocabulary has different associations for each gender. It is, as if, both are going over a bridge together, but one is on the upper level and one is on the lower level. Screaming between the two levels is drowned out by the traffic noise (thoughts) of the other.
Moreover, scientists have recently discovered that because the chemicals (hormones) are in different amounts in each sex, the brain and body reactions function on another level as well. (Men are visual creatures, while women are turned on by the way they are treated.)
The obvious physical differences cause different reactions. Men will discover an erection even when they do not will it, where women are not so intimately reminded of the more primitive aspects of life.
Therefore, the attempts at harmony that long term relationships pose demands ongoing adjustments which actually keeps the brain young and healthy.

The importance of the book, MISSING LINKS TO THE CULPER SPY RING by Bernadine Fawcett strongly suggests through primary source personages’ quotes connecting the Culper Spy Ring as a major contributor to the secret intelligence activities which were co-ordinated and continued throughout all the colonies for the entire Revolutionary War’s successful conclusion.
Trying to separate events leading to the L.I. Culper Spy Ring is identical to looking only at the feet of a person and eliminating the rest of the body which is attached to the extremities. In 1765 the Sons of Liberty began in New York City as the first formal movement towards unifying the colonies.

Since Washington led a few battles in the North, the fact that his principal role was that of an executive administrator has lost its huge significance to the American public. Because of this perception, the American Revolution’s movers and shakers in the establishment of spy groups has been glossed over and nearly forgotten.
After the war, British papers cited an Intelligence official as stating that the war was won because the American’s out-spied us. Do we need more proof than the enemies admission?

Yesterday and Today
based on the intimate actual accounts from the 1700”s in the book “Missing Links to the Culper Spy Ring?“

Katrina’s immediate aftermath had many Revolutionary War conditions which can facilitate today’s generation’s understanding of the difficulties which our forefathers faced. One could walk, use a boat, swim, (at least in the 1700’s they had horses and carriages), but there was no electricity, no running water, no cell phones. Possible death faced them in the form of whooping cough and small pox, plus they lived under the impending Britain's constant threat of pillaging and burning their villages.
The continual Cannonading {cannons blasting} created a readiness to have the next day clothes left on beds overnight so that they might escape into the woods. Starvation amongst the citizens is seldom mentioned in the sterilized history text books so that we forget that History was made by events happening to people. The Reverend Andrew Elliot of Fairfield Connecticut pens his letters to his father in Boston in this excerpt from the book MISSING LINKS TO THE CULPER SPY RING?:
“...A Capt. came thro Town last week-who had broken away from the Army, after having been refused leave from two Gen. Officers, to attend to the cries of a wife & four children who had been without bread a fortnight. He would not stir back till the Committee of the Town promised him absolutely that they should never be so destitute again...” “...You will think it strange say he that our Army should want Bread in a country that flows with wealth. This has been the case.”
The reasons that villagers were without food becomes evident in this comment of August 7, 1778 in which Rev. Eliot noted: “The stock upon Long Island it is expected will be seized for the use of the Kings troops. Gen. Tyron has marched down the Island with 1200 men and is now at Setauket right opposite to us. He orders the farmers to thresh out their grain immediately. They had better not be ill natured about the matter, for fear of consequences. He tells the people there, that the reason Great Britain has sent no more troops this year is because the King & parliament did not dream of the Rebels standing out any longer...”
I have used the tragedy of Katrina to underline the issue that the stories of our beginnings have all the pathos, incompetence, and arrogance in yesteryear just as we have today. The reverend showed no understanding of his wife’s pregnancy and writes that she’s in a “dud” (lack of energy) just one week before she delivers her third child in the same amount of years. Rather than be proud of her housekeeping efforts, he gloats that he has chosen well. The reverend disciplines with a whip and tying the babies to a chair, yet he is proud of them and writes that his one year old Betsy held her hymnal upside down in church and sang “sonorously”
Family life went on even as the war’s dissension's wore out the populaces desires to fight, much like today’s concerns. Lets, eavesdrop on Rev. A. Eliot‘s opinion of the colonists mood about Geo. Washington in his Jan. 18th 1778 letter. ”Our Public Affairs are indeed in a sad & dubious situation. I wonder the People blame that Gentleman to whom they are so much obliged. Were he properly supported I believe he would by the divine blessing, do great things. The truth is People are in some measure tired of the War. They begin to feel its calamitous attendants & consequences. They want to Love peace and expect that Gen. Washington can drive Howe out of America with what forces he now has, as easily as they can rid the Continent of all its Enemies, & adjust the affairs of the mightily republic over a good warm fire and a pipe of Tobacco.”
How did the politicians respond? Here is what Rev. Eliot writes on Feb. 18th 1778: “How unaccountable, that there should be a Cabal {intrigue} raised against that good man Gen. Washington? America has been more obliged to him than to any Individual or Body of Men... The Cabal in the army consists chiefly of the great and sincere Schuyler, Miflin, & Gates. Their scheme to get Gates at the head of the Army. To this end they have published fictitious Letters under the name of Monsieur de Lisle. Thus are people deluded. You will not see any more of these Letters than what are already published, I trouve....The Army are very much incensed. If Washington is superseded they will disband. Many have said that will shoot the man who shall appear to take Gen. Washington’s place.”

Family Life
I hear these comments everywhere: “Marriage should be easy.” “My spouse should want to spend every moment with me.” “My spouse is emotionally involved with someone else. They are not having sex, but they are connected.” “Sex has lost it’s spark.” “ We don’t want to have children now. We want to have time for ourselves.” Those comments reflect a self-centered “Me-Me-Me-” concern that does not reflect family values or even caring for the partner, but an all consuming addiction to the pursuit of happiness. It is a reflection of the frustration that the illusion of the right to have “and they lived happily ever after” when they said their vows, granted them the right to dictate to everyone their concept of a lifestyle that would make them happy. Since everyone's concept of what would make their day is different it would help if they checked with each other to see if they agree on the same issues. Instead “Love” is supposed to be the magic glue. “Love” in that context appears to be some ethereal matter that the controller/demander clings to as the object of his/her desires with a cement-like grip from which others run the other way.
Marriage is giving and is not unilateral. Since two people marry, two people need to cooperate, communicate what disagreements they have without malice, and continue to deal with situations as a problem, not as a personal vendetta. Marriage is also a merging of kinship, but a majority of today’s populace see independence more important than harmony and supportive family ties. In order to accomplish the latter, one has to ignore what appears to be from the in-laws ( and may well be, meant ) a great deal of insulting behaviour. One has to find creative ways in which to address -if possible- the hurts which develop from this type of stance. Often (if family coherence is important to you) one must find a way to view the happenings with humour, with understanding and with tolerance.
For a culture that wants everything NOW, it sets a standard o : bearing no responsibility for the consequences of their actions, so therefore, everything should go according to their
rules (which they feel they have a right to change midstream if the game does not go their way) with a disregard of family ties.
Reread the previous chapters and ask yourself at what age of child developmental stages does this type of behaviour appear? The culture is dangerously moving toward the majority of adults who have arrested development during the teen age years.
The refusal to listen to the older generation’s wisdom from life’s experiences is similar to throwing away diamonds as if they were charcoal. The disinterest extends to the spouse which leads the partner to look elsewhere for emotional support and caring. Many persons are not even healthy connected to themselves and therefore can not fill their own or anyone else's emotional vacuum. Love prevents proper assessment of character analysis to determine if the relationship is workable.
One has to give to receive. That is the oldest adage in history. Giving of oneself is sometimes painful, especially when it is not recognised. What if you give constantly and your mate still has gone off? Perhaps the relationship never dealt with the differences of each party and no effort was made to unify and satisfy the needs of the other. Perhaps this union was never meant to be because it was based on the premise that “Love” conquers all. That “Love” requires no quality time, no supportive listening, no effort at all.
Ask yourself if this makes sense. Ask your mate to accept you as you are. Make modifications with each other to refine this into a working association. Include the in-laws as much as possible by listening to their lifestyles. You don’t have to agree with everything. Just don’t fight about it. Agree to disagree. Or if that is not possible, find a way to internalize a more positive perspective towards them.
I am assuming that the demography of which I speak is normal and has a moral code of behaviour. The group which I am addressing are good kind people at heart who have allowed themselves to be led done a fantasy path which in reality is a destructive approach to peace and harmony.
Ask yourself at what age are your developmentally. At what age is your mate? At what age are your in-laws? Is it possible to develop communication skills with any of them? If not, is there a way to ignore the interference, arrogance or whatever other objectionable behaviour they exhibit? Maturing and accepting responsibility for unifying your marriage and your family is a mutual chore. It is at times unpleasant and unappreciated work. Have you the maturity to discard the illusions and deal with reality?
If so, you will have the satisfaction of a supportive family life-style, but it will feel as if it is at the expense of some of your freedom. It is essential to remember that if you make the choice to do this, you have not lost your freedom because it is your choice to harmonize. That is what America is all about; we have the choice to melt into a cohesive whole, yet allowing the wonderful differences to spark our creativity to become the strongest nation in the world. However, if we fall apart on the minuscule level of individuals incapable of solving the small problems, then how can we solve the large ones of our country?
Often when we can not solve our own problems we become crusaders accusing and judging all the others around us: those directly involved in our life and those who structure our life. Try offering positive thoughtful solutions to your immediate and extended family, and to our government.
Our culture has become one of judging and ripping apart. What will be left if we continue this procedure? Rebuilding and repairing needs to start at every level. Reality brings growth. Growth brings maturity. Life may be uncomfortable at times, but that discomfort is just a nudge to let you know that you are headed in the wrong direction. If you don’t know how to proceed, find a community service that will aid you. Our era has available every type of aide that is needed. Make use of it.
Good Luck. Growing hurts. That is just the way of the world. Trying to force a fantasy mold on the world backfires. Negotiating with it will finally bring the peace and harmony that we all desire.
Imagine what united committed political parties could accomplish!; if they worked as a team with co-operative communication on the macro level. Vying for the best interests of America would automatically create a better party system which voters would certainly, then, express their gratitude by selecting the party which produced the best results.
Remember,*“United we stand Divided we fall.”

Time Travel via 1777 -1778 family correspondence based on a cousin in-law relation of AAron Burr, Rev. A. Eliot, with letters to his father Rev. Eliot Sr. about women, children, slaves, epidemics, & pertinent events of the Revolutionary War; recopied, in the 1800’s and then again by another family member (author), so that today’s public may experience history as it developed. Some original letters are still intact. The quotes below speak for themselves.

Bernadine Fawcett’s Synopsis and Biography

Curiosity about the Revolutionary War letters which Bernadine Fawcett inherited led her to discover intimate accounts of attitudes towards women children and slavery during 1777-1778. Now as a great grandmother, Bernadine Fawcett, B.A. G.S.S (Fordham University) Counselor, Columnist, Author, Lecturer, Television and Radio Personality realises the importance of showcasing the correspondence in her book MISSING LINKS TO THE CULPER SPY RING? which ties her to the family of Vice President Aaron Burr. His obscure relative-in-law, Rev. Eliot, whose wife was a direct line descendent from Alfred the Great as was Aaron Burr and Burr’s first cousin,Thaddeus Burr who is a main character in this account. Firsthand secret information was exchanged between the Burrs and Eliots which dealt with Gen. Washington plus other troop developments which were delivered (on occasion by John Hancock) to the elder reverend of the same name in Boston.

American archaeological historical finds is an ongoing adventure even after the publication of the book, MISSING LINKS TO THE CULPER SPY RING? which continues to unite the past and the present. Mrs. Fumante of Oyster Bay L.I. N.Y., a direct descendent from the Burr line( related to V.P. Aaron Burr) and the Eliot's e-mailed me on 10-30-05:
“...My family is in possession of a few items... I have a ring which we believe is a memorial ring that was made upon the death of the elder Rev. Eliot. It is inscribed as follows: Andrew Eliot. DD.OB:13:SEP:1778 AE 60.” Kristy’s last comment was her amazement of what a small world this is.
And yet another e-mail from Kristy:

Dear Bernadine,
I have no problem with you using my name in connection with the date of Rev. Eliot's death, but I just want to be sure that the inscription on the ring does in fact indicate his date of death. Do you have any way of knowing if that particular inscription does indeed indicate his date of death?

Dear Kristy,
The letters from Rev. Eliot of Fairfield Conn. to his father in Boston stopped on Aug. 27th 1778. I think that that could not be a coincidence. (It would take time for the news of his father’s illness to reach the son in Fairfield Conn. and for the son to travel to his father’s side in Boston.) In fact, it amazed me to realise now (after the book was published) the explanation was furnished for why the letters stopped. I had wondered about it, because I know that he still lived and died in Fairfield (Fairfield Historical Museum has this confirmation) and the war and family news obviously continued. I think that is enough evidence to confirm the date of Rev. Andrew Eliot's (of Boston) death as Sept. 13, 1778.

At 72 years of age, fighting Candida and Epstein Barr Virus with a compromised immune system from Diabetes, I successfully did a presentation yesterday on my book MISSING LINKS TO THE CULPER SPY RING? for the Gray Panthers at the Bay Shore/Brightwaters Library. Afterwards I attempted to go the well known route (for me) to SUNYSB Hospital to visit a friend and wandered aimlessly for an hour before the correct way to go finally came to me. For anyone who has experienced Candida and its many symptoms from extreme pain of the entire bodily (especially the face), memory loss, confused thinking, night chills and sweats, depression. loss of balance, social withdrawal plus additional other symptoms, please check your internet for Candida. It took several MRI’s and XRay’s in addition to 8 months medical investigation before the diagnosis for this illness came through on a blood test that I had to request because the multiple other blood tests did not explore this as a possibility.
As a Marriage and Family Counselor, I have since noticed that a number of clients have many of the same symptom’s and I have suggested that they request a blood test to determine if this is the cause of their behavioural and physical symptoms. I hate to try to help people if the cause is a physical one.
It appears to me that this long wait could be avoided if physicians had a long questionnaire with all symptoms that one is likely to have for different illnesses which they could compare on a computer to see which should be investigated first ( and less expensively) to determine the cause. Waiting 8 months for a result only increased the severity of the Candida which is slowly getting under control with herbs, diet, and exercise. The medication which I was given by the specialists did not go to the cause, but only treated the pain.
These are just the facts. I withhold how I feel about this treatment, but an imaginative person could figure that one out.

MISSING LINKS TO THE CULPER SPY RING? extract:
We know of John Hancock, Geo. Washington, and Aaron Burr, but we seldom hear of the behind the scenes movers and shakers of the Revolutionary War. A review of all the letters, that the obscure Rev. Andrew Eliot of Fairfield Connecticut wrote to his Boston based father of the same name, details how he was intimately involved with all these famous people. The missives create a distinct suspicion that both father and son were American Secret Agents trading information about both the British and American movements valuable to General Washington in order to coordinate his maneuvers. Highlighted ... are explicit facts obtained by Rev. Andrew Eliot as he associated with the above persons, along with various generals from both sides of the foray, plus reports and news obtained from deserters, escapees and other parties he named; He paid fastidious attention to details and investigated the accuracy of all reports, rumors and even gossip.
However, the Culper Spy Ring which Benjamin Tallmadge operated from Fairfield Connecticut delivering reports to Gen. Washington is never mentioned in Rev. Andrew Eliot's reports. ..Large confidential packets with directions to take care to maintain the secrecy are exchanged between both Reverends; to be given with discretion to the right parties, who were never explicitly named; although great care to identify names, places, supplies, and wounded in regards to the Revolutionary War was always given.
I believe based on these letters, that the enlightenment flowed in many directions, not just from Fairfield Connecticut to Setauket L.I. and on to New York City continuing on to wherever Gen. Geo. Washington and other American generals were currently camped. Washington was never stationary for more than a few months time within the Revolutionary War conflict, therefore the secret intelligence system had to be fluid, and have untainted informers. Since the majority of the spies have not been uncovered, even today my investigations of Spy doom are therefore, highlighted in order that the reader may determine the efficaciousness of this theory of Rev. Andrew Eliot’s siphoning secret intelligence for the benefit of freedom and independence to the colonies....
Marriage makes strange bedfellows. The family ties creating loyalty for the country (and the connection to the author writing this) is intertwined with marriage both vertically and horizontally. Aaron Burr and Rev. Andrew Eliot’s wife, Mary (Pynchon) Eliot are related through the common ancestry of direct lineage from the King of England, Alfred the Great (born about 848 and died 899).
Aaron Burr was the first cousin and close friend of one of the major nonentities, Thaddeus Burr, who played a major role in the Revolutionary War from his estate in Fairfield Connecticut. Thaddeus Burr entertained both the British royalty and the American patriots. The political differences created the struggle for independence, but the loyalties were more slowly ripped asunder. Therefore, for a time, the British Captains and British Governor Tryon continued to be welcome at Thaddeus Burr’s home, where at least on one occasion, secrets were divulged when wine was indulged! ...
The friendship connection between Thaddeus Burr and Rev. Andrew Eliot deepens through the years as Mr. Burr becomes the Uncle/Father-in-law to Andrew Eliot’s daughter, Betsey who marries Thaddeus Burr’s nephew/adopted son. ...This genealogy continues and is the connection that allows me to have these documents. Marriages are a zigzag pattern which is inherent throughout and on to the present generation. Marital unions can be traced with artifacts such as the earrings given to Mrs. T. Burr from John Hancock's wife which are in my possession. .... Thaddeus Burr had raised his nephew, Gershom Burr as his son and left him a large inheritance. When Gershom Burr and Betsey Eliot married the interfamily ties tightened. Therefore, close family and/or friendship bind the major characters (Geo. Washington, Aaron Burr, John Hancock) with the minor participants (Thaddeus Burr and Rev. Andrew Eliot) to oppose the British insurgence.
However, the missives written by Rev. Andrew Eliot from 1777-1778 tell their own story of the personal struggles with small pox, the inconveniences and joys of that period, and the accounts of pillaging, but more importantly: the amount of supplies, amount of troops and their destinations, amount dead, and wounded; the troop movements of both the American and British side; the retreats, losses and wins; investigating war gossip and rumors for the truth; certifying factual accounts and detailed conjectures; carefully verifying each item as soon as it is available. Yet most especially he warns of possible attacks with as much specific particulars as he is able to glean. He receives details first hand from such important individuals as: George Washington, Ben Franklin, General John Hancock, and the then teenage Col. Andrew Jackson, at Thaddeus Burr’s discretion which are particularized in his letters to his father, Rev. Andrew Eliot of Boston.
Here is a direct quote from his July 31, 1778 letter to his father the Rev. Andrew Eliot of Boston,“I did not send you any news in my last {letter} as Gen. Hancock {none other than the signer of the Independence document} was the bearer, and you could have every thing by him at first hand must therefore depend on you {The elder Rev. Andrew Eliot of Boston} for the best information.You shall have all I can procure from the Westward....
One more quote from Rev. Andrew Eliot’s letter of November 13,1777 to exemplify the closeness to John Hancock: “President Hancock was here yesterday & set away this morning. I dined with him and spent the evening with him at Mr. Burr’s. He was excessively agreeable & treated me with great politeness... This lends itself to the theory that he was a major secret agent for the American side. Therefore I will continue the hypothesis with additional facts. Another possible coconspirator could be (and most probably was) Thaddeus Burr who was deputy and Justice of the Peace of the county, who resided in Fairfield, and was a close friend with Rev. Andrew Eliot. Thaddeus Burr was Sheriff of the county in 1779. ..

Mrs. Ross of Pequanock is down at the point of death with that distemper. The measles also prevail in this & the neighbouring towns. Mr. Bartrams negro Jake & Mr. Burr’s man Cato are run off in a boat to Long Island, with a Continental Sergeant.
